Mad rush for fuel

Normally it takes me 15-20 minutes for me to get back to my apartment from work. Yesterday, it took me 1.5 hours. Wanna know why? Here’s why:

Yes, apparently all of Klang Valley decided to up and leave their homes to pump petrol into their cars before the midnight deadline when petrol increased 41%.

This is penny wise pound foolish. See here, by the time you finish queuing up, pump your car with that petrol, spend time in the bumper-to-bumper traffic jam to get home, you would’ve burnt up whatever “savings” you’d tried to achieve.

Meanwhile, folks like me who did not bother jockeying for a position in the queue, but who only want to go home and sleep, had to suffer a massively stupid jam. It was chock-a-block all the way home for me because the petrol stations along the way had queues that spilled onto the road, causing blocks. It didn’t help that there were too many freaking people on the road doing god knows what (okay, we know what) that night. Luckily I knew how to use the backroads to get home. If not, I would probably be stuck in that jam for 2 hours or more.

To those who rushed out to pump petrol: You guys are MORONS.

Which proves the point - the “kiasu” tag should not just be reserved for Singaporeans. Malaysians have a big claim to it too.

Here are those who experienced the mad jam and blogged about it too:

  • Penangites’ kiasu led to midnight rush for fuel
  • Lining up at the gas station is for fools - Amen!
  • The idiots who rushed to pump petrol yesterday are stupid
  • Petrol hike … make people crazy

I’d hate to be someone who genuinely had to fill my tank up.
But, sounds like a typical knee jerk reaction that gives mobs a bad name! :-)
At least we’ll all be fitter when the big collapse comes as we’ll be walking to work … only takes about five or six hours for me … one way.

yeah… imagine how much petrol was burnt yesterday by those who queue to pump up…

[…] we Malaysians a whiny lot? Sure, some of us are. The morons who caused traffic jams rushing to pump petrol on June 4 may be whiny […]

yeah.. i agree! i almost wanted to come down to scold those moron motorists queueing up and blocking the entrance road my house!! I mean unless your tank is empty or empty, and even then, is it worth it to queue for so long just to save a bit? Time is money too!! And i can tell you majority are not in this category - talk about being major `kiasu’!!

i was actually calculating how much precious petrol i was already burning just because these idiots saw fit to clog up the streets at the 11th hour!

thank goodness my tank went nearly empty on monday night, so i pumped one day ahead of the madness. phew! even then, refilling the tank when it runs out again is going to be a costly affair…

    damn!

    I totally agree with you.
And I debated with those “morons” who told me that it made a lot of difference in their 2.0l cars.. (SO What if it’s RM40 difference)
I told them to GET A LIFE!
